Desert Thunder

Dry desert palms outstretch
Thirstily catching raindrops as they land
Leaves turned inward to protect
The life within the sand

Lightning shines upon the 'scape
Mesquite shudder as thunder roars
Footprints upon the earth are raped
Wind sweeps and rain pours

Gullies fill and rivers flow
Skies chatter with the earth below
Howling wind does blow
New life is bestowed
